Inquiry into the Marriage Equality Amendment Bill 2009

The right to marry is a right intersex people are seeking just as much as others in the LGBTI community.

Although most intersex people live as men or women, some do not. Although most intersex people are heterosexual, some are not.

OII Australia therefore welcomes and supports Senator Sarah Hanson-Young’s Marriage Equality Amendment Bill which has now gone into a Senate inquiry.

Amendment of the Marriage Act 1961 Schedule 1, page 3.

Senator Hanson-Young’s proposed amendments will make it possible for all intersex people to marry in future, if passed into law. At present, not all intersex people have that right.
